Purpose, Audience, Authors, and Acknowledgements

Depression is common, underdiagnosed and undertreated. Its presentation, functional impact and responsiveness to treatment are quite different in primary care than psychiatric practice. New therapeutic agents have substantially increased the likelihood of treating depression successfully while minimizing side effects. This self-study activity provides practical guidance to primary care clinicians concerning key aspects of care for depression including:
- Recognizing depression
- Treating it aggressively and effectively
- Prescribing cost-effectively

This self-study activity is appropriate for primary care clinicians and other health care providers providing care for adults with depression.
