About Us
The Office of Continuing Medical Education (OCME) is a unit of the Department of Medical Education, a department that brings together the University of Michigan (U-M) Medical School's resources and experise in educational research, development and delivery for medical students, residents and practicing physicians. OCME designates credit for all University of Michigan Medical School CME activities and produces activities for physicians and other health care professionals in our region and nationally. All CME activities are developed in collaboration with relevant clinical departments of the U-M Medical School.
OCME provides a full range of services for planning and producing CME activities in a wide variety of formats. OCME has 18 full-time professionals with expertise in all areas related to CME:
- Educational planning and research
- Business management and industry relations
- Meeting planning and production at local, regional and national venues
- Marketing and promotional materials design, production and delivery
- Financial management and accounting
- Administration for registration, records and legal documentation
CME Activities for U-M Health System Personnel
OCME annually designates CME credit for more than 200 CME activities, providing more than 10,000 hours of instruction for more than 2,000 UMHS physicians and other UMHS clinical personnel. For further information, see CME Credit Approval for U-M Activities.
CME Activities for Physicians Regionally and Nationally
In addition to designating credit, OCME oversees and produces the U-M Medical School's CME activities for physicians and other health care professionals in our region and nationally. For these audiences, OCME annually produces more than 100 CME activities, offering more than 1,000 hours of instruction to more than 12,000 participants.
Partnering Opportunites
Through OCME, the U-M Medical School partners with local, regional and national CME providers and medical education companies to expand the Medical School's capabilities to provide high quality CME programs for physicians.
